Bringing Our Community’s Stories to Life
We are proud to introduce ‘Voices of the Woodchurch’, our living history project – a unique and powerful way to connect our children with the people, stories and memories that shape our local community.
Each half-term, our children become young historians, interviewing residents from the Woodchurch Estate to learn first-hand about the changes they’ve seen, the lives they’ve lived and the rich heritage that surrounds us. From everyday routines to major events, these conversations will help our children explore how life in our area has evolved, whilst deepening their understanding of the past through the voices of those who lived it.
This project not only brings history to life, but also strengthens the bond between school and community. Through respectful listening, thoughtful questions and a genuine interest in the experiences of others, our children are developing empathy, curiosity, and a true appreciation for the people and past around them.
Our collective aim is to build a living archive of local history – preserving the past, celebrating our present, and inspiring pride in the place our children call home.
Keep an eye out for our first set of interviews.
Voices of the Woodchurch 1: Philip Whitehead
We were thrilled to welcome Philip as our very first interview. Philip attended Fender in our very first year as a school in 1954. The children were incredible and we learned so much from Philip, who is currently working on a history of the Woodchurch Estate.
