Mental Health & Wellbeing

We are deeply committed to supporting the mental health and emotional wellbeing of every child in our care. We believe that wellbeing is the foundation for learning, and we strive to create a nurturing environment where all children feel safe, valued and supported.

Our whole-school approach to mental health includes proactive teaching of emotional literacy (see our page on ‘Zones of Regulation), resilience and self-regulation as part of our curriculum, as well as targeted support for children who may need additional help. We have a dedicated team of trained staff, including Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs), pastoral leads and SEND specialists, who work with children individually or in small groups to support a wide range of emotional needs, from anxiety and self-esteem to bereavement, friendship difficulties and behaviour linked to emotional regulation.

We highlight emotional literacy across our reading spines and ensure we have a diverse and wide reaching library for children’s books on the above topics.

We also work closely with families and external agencies to provide joined-up, compassionate support. Whether through regular check-ins, wellbeing plans, sensory support, or links with counselling and mental health services, our aim is always to ensure that no child feels alone in their struggles.

By promoting positive mental health across the school, we aim to empower our children with the skills, confidence and self-awareness they need to flourish, both now and in the future.
