Our Approach to SEND
We are committed to ensuring that every child is fully included and able to thrive. We believe that all pupils, regardless of their needs, should have access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum.
Our approach to supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is rooted in our high-quality, ordinarily available offer. This means that high-quality teaching, inclusive practice and carefully considered adaptations are in place in every classroom so that all children can learn alongside their peers. Teachers plan and deliver lessons with a focus on removing barriers to learning, making use of strategies such as clear explanations, scaffolding, visual support and practical resources; this is an integral part of our provision at Fender that is woven through our pedagogy and curriculum.
We follow the graduated approach-assess, plan, do, review—to identify and meet individual needs. This ensures that support is responsive and personalised, with staff working in partnership with families and, where appropriate, external professionals.
- Assess – we gather information about a child’s strengths and needs.
- Plan – we agree the strategies, interventions or adaptations that will support progress.
- Do – we put the plan into action, using classroom practice and targeted support.
- Review – we evaluate the impact and adjust as needed, ensuring progress continues.
Inclusive practice runs through everything we do. We have high expectations for all children and place great value on fostering independence, confidence and resilience. Staff receive regular training to ensure they are skilled in adapting teaching, promoting positive relationships and supporting social, emotional and mental health needs.
By working closely with parents and carers, and by listening to the voices of our children, we ensure that every child feels valued, supported and able to achieve their best.
